I recently read an article on the Psychology Today website about the “summer slump” among children. The title of the article was “The Summer Slump: Do Kids Backslide During Summer Vacation?” It stated that some education professionals believe a summer slump occurs when all the summer activities cause children to be less engaged in educational activities, and this will cause them to forget most of what they learned the previous year. In most local churches, “summer slump” refers to a decrease in attendance during the months of June and July. Let’s enjoy all the fun activities of the summer months, and also stay faithful in our Sunday School and worship attendance. The March Gladness Sunday School promotion resulted in a significant increase in our Sunday School attendance. Let’s keep this going in the summer months and not allow ourselves to “backslide”.
Also, please join me in welcoming Chase and Rachel Camp to our Adult Sunday School staff. They have agreed to lead our College Core ministry which includes teaching the College and Young Adult Sunday School class. Kirk Spears has decided to take a break from teaching this class, and we appreciate his commitment to this class.
